The most common type in New Zealand, wall-mounted
heat pumps / air conditioners are split-type units,
which combine small size with high efficiency and
noise-free operation. They are mounted on walls about
10-30 cm (4-12 inches) below the ceiling. Fully automated,
they are operated by a remote-control unit. Their
adjustable flaps can be programmed to distribute air
in all directions.
The most extensively automated option, wall-mounted
air conditioners can be installed practically everywhere
and take up no floor space. It should be noted however
that the high location can make filter cleaning difficult,
particularly for the elderly and disabled. This is
the most popular type of heat pump for offices and
residential houses and apartments due to their unique
aesthetic design and very attractive pricing.
